Transforming a magazine cover car into a competitive X275 machine takes a lot of work and Eric Perini and his team pulled it off with the Joker Mustang. This featured Fox Mustang has a storied history with its wild paint job and days gone by on the streets of New Jersey to its current trim and the team’s aspirations to be competitive on the X275 scene. One of the key elements in achieving that goal was to make a trip to FuelTech USA’s headquarters for the Advanced Dyno Training package on the in-house Mainline Hub Dyno.

The Advanced Dyno Training session includes eight hours of one-on-one training using your vehicle on the dyno as you learn about your PowerFT engine management system. FuelTech handles the driving chores, enabling you to focus on your time with the FuelTech customer service staff. Included in the session is a complete data log analysis of the runs and advanced help in creating the ECU maps or troubleshooting issues. Topping it off, FuelTech even throws in a flash drive with professionally curated photography and videos of your experience as well as feeding the group lunch. The Joker Mustang’s output has been kept under wraps, however Perini learned quite a bit about the FT600 that powers and controls the turbocharged powertrain. The FT600, FT550, FT550LITE, and FT450 offer a complete line-up of standard features including sequential injection and ignition, O2 Closed Loop, data logger, delay box, Boost Controller, Nitrous Controller, traction control, and so much more. FuelTech’s features and capabilities have helped change the game in the aftermarket ECU world, as proven by the success in various motorsports with championships and record-breaking performances. Spark is an integral component to making big power and this small-block Ford engine benefits from the highly touted FTSPARK-8 Gen II. The Gen II box offers a minimum and guaranteed 750mj of energy at 140 amps and has been tested up to 850mj in certain applications. FuelTech tests every unit prior to boxing to ensure each one meets the 750mj minimum guarantee. That works out to a 25 percent increase in mj output and a 12.5 percent increase of amps at the primary coil over the FTSPARK Gen I. All Gen I ignition boxes are upgradable to Gen II and it utilizes the same enclosure, making the swap easy and quick. The FTSPARK provides the charge to an eight-pack of CDI Racing Ignition coils.
